Dan's Kayak Mini-Adventure

Dan went on a kayak mini-adventure last weekend. Yes, we bought a kayak, so of course he had to take it for a test run.

He is planning going on a longer kayaking adventure with his friend Jerry sometime in the next few weeks, which is why we got it in the first place.

Last Saturday, I drove him about twenty minutes out of town to get on the river. It was 8:00 in the morning when he set down the river. Along the way, he came across all kinds of critters, including a coyote. There were also lots of curious cows that had to come to the river to watch as he passed.

Dan also got a little wet; it's been raining a lot here, and although it seemed to have cleared up that morning, he came upon some pouring rain - luckily, just as he was coming to an overpass. But despite the cloudy sky, he still got sunburned pretty badly (he had to go shirtless most of the way to keep it from getting drenched).

It took him five and a half hours to reach Huron. I picked him back up at 1:30 PM, not far from our house actually, just as it started to rain again. Although he was pretty sore from paddling, he did have a lot of fun.
