Lazy Summer Days

I only wrote one article today, and I'm okay with that. I got a lot of writing done this week. Plus, this blog post counts as something, right?? Well, I guess we'll have to decide that once it's over.

This week started out pretty slow at work. We finished early on Monday and didn't have enough product to work at all Tuesday, so I took a vacation day. I tried to write as much as I could, while working on housework and other projects.

We are sticking around home this weekend, which is nice because we were gone to Fargo last weekend and we'll be heading to MN next week. We will likely get a lot of wedding planning done then, so I'm not worrying about much of anything today or tomorrow.

After Wal-Mart and grocery shopping today, we had some ice cream and enjoyed the warm weather. It was hot--summer officially began this past week, but it's been like this off and on since March--and humid, but luckily our yard is shaded, thanks to all the trees (that kept us busy raking last fall). Then while Dan played his video games, I lazed about, getting things done here and there.

I made fish, rice and spinach salad for dinner.

We played Lego Harry Potter this evening. It's the only video game I play, and it can be really addicting. Since I rarely have time to play, it has taken months and months and I still have a ways to go. For some reason, Dan loves watching me play it...don't ask. It's a lot more fun when you're playing. I have to hurry up and finish, though, because we have had the second HP game sitting on a shelf since Christmas, collecting dust.

You know that frozen cookie dough you buy from fundraisers? Chocolate chunk. It's really good to eat right out of the container (don't worry--there are no raw eggs in it), but it makes horrible cookies. They come out of the oven all mushy, but turn to rocks when they cool. Well, I've had the cookie dough thawing in the fridge for a few days and we've been snacking on it here and there. So we decided to make a few bigger cookies tonight and bake them for a shorter amount of time.

They were mushy, but we ate all six of them. And drank milk, of course. Then we took Mila for a walk to burn off some of the calories we had just consumed, and it was still humid but a lot cooler.

And now I'm soaking my feet while Dan plays Skyrim. Surprisingly, Loki is quite the curious kitty about all the bubbles but Mila won't come into the living room for fear of the bubbly noises. Poor baby. She's still a little traumatized from getting her nails clipped earlier.

We're thinking about heading to the park tomorrow and maybe bringing a picnic lunch. Maybe grill for dinner and have some potato salad. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

A Weekend's Worth of Mila Mishaps

Dan's parents visited for the first time this weekend with their dog, Sadie. It was a quick, but fun, weekend (even though I had to work yesterday). So, that's what this blog post is going to be about. But as the title suggests, it will also be about Mila.

We decided to take a snooze on the sofa while we waited for them to arrive, since it was going to be about midnight. Mila snuggled up with me and hardly moved when they got here, not even when Dan went out the front door. As soon as she heard their voices, though, she flew to the door with the shrillest series of yelps. I guess the next morning, Dan let her out of her kennel and she ran straight for the stairs. (Now that she has figured out how to climb the stairs on her own, she goes up all the time.) I have to wonder if that's what she thought about all night: the company upstairs.

All the critters...and Dan
I didn't get done with work until after 2:00 yesterday, so I came home and napped a little, then showered and got ready for our date night with his parents. It was our first time visiting the Prime Time Tavern, and guess what's on their menu? You got it: prime rib. Prime rib dinner, large prime rib, and so on. They do have steak and filet mignon on certain nights, too.

We stopped at home afterward to let the dogs out and let our dinner settle before going to the theater to see Prometheus.  I wasn't really a fan, but Dan enjoyed it. We didn't get home until about midnight. Sadie greeted us at the door, and Loki was waiting for us, as well. Okay...so where was Mila? She always greets us--very vocally, I might add--at the door. The first place I looked was the bed, then upstairs. She was nowhere to be found. I started to panic. Had we left her out in the yard before we left? I could have sworn she was in the living room when we said good-bye.

Then we heard Dan laughing in the bedroom. Mila was on the other side of the bed in Loki's kennel, where they never, ever go. Apparently, the door had swung shut (but not latched) behind her, so she must have thought she was locked inside. She made not a PEEP, but she was wiggling ferociously with excitement. Maybe she was playing hide-and-seek with us....

After our company left today, I was busy talking on the phone and Mila suddenly started barking. She ran into the bedroom and kept yipping at me. Propping her front paws up on the bed, she peered at me like, "Aren't you going to see who's here?" I guess she had heard a dinging sound on Dan's phone and thought it was the doorbell.

Sandy & Jeff with Sadie
After a while, I was on my computer and got a glimpse of Mila as she propelled herself onto the bottom step and trotted up the stairs. It was the weirdest thing, because she never goes up there unless she is following one of us up, or if someone is already up there. I thought she was maybe going to look for Sadie or just take a quiet nap up there. So, we sneaked up the stairs and didn't see her on her bed. She eventually heard us coming up and very casually walked out of the office. Who knows what goes on in the head of a puppy....

Wedding Update: 3 Months to Go

We have less than three months to go now. Even though we got a lot of the bigger details out of the way months ago, there is still a lot to do and not much time to do it. Now that it's June, we're starting to feel pressed for time. It's not easy trying to plan a wedding from a state away....

I'm getting very close to having invitations addressed and ready to send. I've been working on addressing them for a couple weeks now. WHY do I always have to make everything as difficult as possible for myself? I could have just printed addresses on clear labels, but no--I'm not only writing them by hand, but I'm using architectural lettering. This means it takes almost two hours to address ten invitations.

But that's not all. I had the brilliant idea to use glue sticks to attach two pieces of cardstock together. Turns out that doesn't stick so well. So, now I also have to re-glue most of the invites since they fall apart at the slightest touch.

I am almost done with them, though. With any luck, I could have the invitations in the mail by the end of the week!!

What else?

Sometime soon, I need to pick up my dress from Moorhead and make an appointment to try out hairstyles in Park Rapids. I also need to buy all of my accessories. We need to go to PR sometime to apply for a marriage license, as well, and figure out chair rental, etc. We still don't have a musician. That's not to mention all the other little details...You may think three months is a lot of time to get this all done, but we have to get it all done in a few weekend trips back to Fargo and Park Rapids.

So, yeah, three months to go....
